With 7½ miles of stunning beaches to explore, Lincoln City is one of the best examples of the Central Oregon Coast. There are even local experts who are more than willing to share their knowledge of coastal activities such as crabbing, clamming, tide-pooling, and beachcombing at free clinics throughout the year. An upcoming tide pool clinic on July 19 (starting at 8:30 a.m. at Lincoln City’s Northwest 15th Street Beach Access) will give attendees a chance to learn about the colorful sea creatures that live in the rocky intertidal pools along the beach. If you’re in town on July 25, you can also learn more about the local beaches while crabbing on Siletz Bay following a brief introduction starting at 11 a.m. at the pavilion on Southwest 51st Street.

4. Lincoln City Farmers & Crafters Market

The Lincoln City Farmers & Crafters Market takes over the Lincoln City Cultural Center from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. every Sunday during the summer with a wide range of items for sale. The outdoor market only features items that were homegrown or handmade, so whatever you buy, you can be sure it’s fresh and local. Prepared food, beverages, and entertainment are also offered.

3. Finders Keepers on the Beach

Beachgoers from far and wide come to Lincoln City in the hopes of finding their very own blown-glass float hidden on the beach by “float fairies” between October and Memorial Day each year since 1999. The tradition began as a celebration of the new millennium inspired by the colorful globes that used to wash ashore from Japanese fishing boats sailing the sea around the turn of the previous century. The city will be celebrating 20 years of this ongoing tradition, known as Finders Keepers, by “dropping” 20 unique floats inspired by the new Explore Lincoln City brand along public beaches between Siletz Bay and Roads End on the 20th of each month.

2. Local Summer Festivals & Special Events

Lincoln City and its surrounding areas are buzzing with local festivals and special outdoor events this time of year. The popular Lincoln City Summer Kite Festival that took place in June was one of the most successful yet, but don’t worry if you missed it – there are still plenty of fun fests to enjoy! The Dory Days Festival in Pacific City, for example, will take place the weekend of July 19-21 with a fish fry, parade, and much more to celebrate the local dory fishing culture. The Annual Summer Whale Watch Weekend at Boiler Bay State Scenic Viewpoint (north of Depoe Bay) will also take place from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 27 and 28. The Oregon Chapter of the American Cetacean Society hosts this event and volunteers will be on hand to help you better understand the local wildlife and make the most of your time outdoors.
