While the average glass drop might only consist of a handful of floats on the beach, an additional 100 glass treasures will be dropped on the public beaches between Siletz Bay and the Roads End area over Memorial Day Weekend.

Art on the Edge Studio Showcase

The Art on the Edge Studio Showcase is essentially a tour of local artists’ studios around the Lincoln City area, so members of the public can see how these masters create their works of art. The 2^nd annual installment of this eclectic and artful event kicked off on Friday, May 11th with an Opening Reception at the Chessman Gallery, and you can still check out the art until June 4^th.

Live Music in Lincoln City

On the evening of May 27^th, the Memorial Day Weekend continues with Neil Young tribute band Harvest Gold at the Lincoln City Cultural Center, as well as Unplugged at Snug Harbor Bar & Grill at 8:30 PM and the electric blues of Hippie Love Slave at Rusty Truck Brewing at 8 PM. The Snug Harbor Bar & Grill will also host Curtis Interruptus at 9 PM the following Saturday, June 2^nd, and Zuhg at 8:30 PM on June 3^rd.

Summer Morning Matinees

The Bijou Theatre continues its Saturday Morning Cinema series on May 26^th with the 1939 film “They Made Me A Criminal” at 11 AM for only $2. The classic movie stars John Garfield as a boxer on the run after being accused of murder, who finds himself at a working farm where he meets The Dead End Kids. The theatre will also host a special Memorial Day Summer Morning Matinee with the beloved 1991 animated film “An American Tail 2” at 11 AM for $2.

Lincoln City Farmers & Crafters Market

Summer Sundays in Lincoln City are made for the farmer’s and crafters market, where everything is either home-grown or hand-made by the people selling it. On May 27^th, June 3^rd and other upcoming Sundays, you will find the market at the Lincoln City Cultural Center from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Local Players Perform at Theatre West

Borderline Crazies is playing at Theatre West from May 31^st to June 2^nd with doors at 7 PM and curtains at 7:30 PM. The play takes place in and around a rustic Lake Tahoe cabin, which has been double-booked for a snowy weekend. Just as everyone is fighting over who gets to stay, a snowstorm seals everyone inside – and to make matters worse, an ax murderer is on the loose!

Free Fishing Weekend

The Tide Pool Clinic will starts= at the NW 15th Street Beach Access at 11 a.m. on May 5^th, 8:30 a.m. on May 16^th & 17^th and at 9:30 a.m. on May 19^th. Last but not least, the Coastal Encounters Beachcombing 101 clinic with author Kay Myers starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Driftwood Public Library on May 22^nd.

Cooking Classes at the Culinary Center in Lincoln City

If you love preparing and eating fine food, perhaps a cooking class at Lincoln City’s Culinary Center is the ideal way for you to spend a day. The center often hosts cooking classes from 11 a.m. to 2p.m. on Saturdays for a set $75 fee including a meal and drinks at the end. The Culinary Center will be hosting a Hands-On Mexican Cooking Class for Cinco de Mayo on May 5^th and a Hands-On Sichuan Cooking Class on May 12^th. This year’s theme is “Art on the Edge” and the opening reception will take place on the 11^th of May from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. featuring local visual artists who are opening their studio spaces up to the public. The tours will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 18^th to 20^th.

Special Glass Drops on the Beach

May is a particularly amazing time to be in Lincoln City because this is the final month of the Finders Keepers on the Beach season when “float fairies” drop colorful glass floats made by local artists along the coast every day. There will be a special glass drop celebration for Mother’s Day on May 12^th and 13^th, as well as for the Closing Weekend from May 26-28. This quaint bay on the Central Oregon coast is known as “the whale watching capital” and is only a short drive from all of our beach vacation rentals. Lincoln City and its 7½ miles of beautiful beaches and countless amenities are perfectly positioned for whale watchers heading out for their morning expeditions. Whale-watching excursions leave from Depoe Bay every day when weather permits for roughly 10 months out of the year, and spring brings clearer and calmer days to see more whales. Spring Brings Whales in Mid-Migration

The beautiful Pacific Gray Whale is the most commonly spotted on the Central Oregon Coast. The whale-watching season typically runs from December to October, but there are two parts of the season. From December to May, Pacific Gray Wales in the midst of their migration are constantly passing through the Oregon Coast. Most whales spotted in the spring are on the northern end of their migration path, but there are also some heading south. By mid to late May, however, you can also catch the approximately 20 “resident whales” that return every year to Depoe Bay.

Pacific Gray Whales tend to stay around Depoe Bay for extended periods when they are in the midst of their northern migration. This is because their migration is so long – all the way from the Bering Sea between Asia and North America down to Mexico’s Baja Peninsula and Sea of Cortez before heading north again. As they head down, many of the cows (female whales) are pregnant. The cows eat very little in order to reach their destination in the warm lagoons of Baja to give birth, as their calves are not born with enough blubber to survive in cold waters. On the way back up north for summer, though, the emaciated female cows will stop and stay for a while to fill up their bellies and regain their blubber in Depoe Bay.

Every year around the start of March, the Lincoln City Half Marathon & 10K returns to this beautiful stretch of Oregon coastline to kickstart spring, get people moving and raise some money for great causes. This year’s course starts at Taft High School at 9 am on Sunday, March 4^th. The out-and-back course takes runners, joggers, and walkers through 13.1 or 6.2 miles of rural, scenic, two-lane roads peppered with rolling hills.

Registered runners and walkers can pick up their race packets with technical t-shirts on Saturday, March 3^rd from noon to 3:00 pm at the Lincoln City Community Center, or from 7:00-8: 30 am on race day at Taft High School. All those who complete the race will receive a finisher medal, and additional prizes will be given to the top male and female finishers in five age groups for each of the two races. Final Nights of the Christmas Light Show

The Christmas Light Show at 2642 NE Holmes Road in Lincoln City will sparkle for the last time on New Year’s Day after running every night from 5 to 10 p.m. since the 7^th of December. If you’re in town for the New Year’s celebrations, make sure to catch this festive experience while you can! The nightly event is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring donations for the Food Pantry.

Special New Year’s Glass Drop

Lincoln City’s famous “Finders Keepers on the beach” – a daily event between mid-October and Memorial Day in which hand-blown glass floats are dropped along the city’s 7½-mile stretch of coastline – will be bigger than ever on New Year’s Day. The Float Fairies will drop 100 colorful glass floats along the beaches for walkers to discover during daylight hours. Anyone lucky enough to find a float will receive a Certificate of Authenticity and information about the artist who created it as soon as they register it online, over the phone or in person at the Lincoln City Visitor Center.
