Great Board Games for Family Vacations

Sometimes when you’re out on vacation you just want to stay in, order takeout, and do something together. This can especially be true when you stay in comfortable, homey beach vacation rentals. Lincoln City, Oregon has many of them.

And even though there are so many amazing things to do in Lincoln City, Oregon, we understand the impulse to have “a night in.”

And during those nights in, many families enjoy a good board game to pit wits, test strategies, inspire conversation, and just have a good time together. Here are some suggestions for board games that would be a hit during a comfortable evening in Oregon vacation rentals.

First is Ticket to Ride. This comes in two versions, one featuring a game map of the United States and the other a game map of Europe. Players take turns building railroads and completing routes between far-flung destinations. The game is for 2 to 5 players, and it gets more complex and difficult with more players. But opponents can cause havoc on the roadway or cause each other to run out of gas, or other calamity. This comes in a small enough box that it can be suitable for air travel, but since it is a game about driving, perhaps you should insist on making the breathtakingly beautiful drive to your beach condo rentals!

A third suggestion is Unexploded Cow. This is the most easily packed game among all of our suggestions, so it can travel with you no matter how you come to your Oregon beach vacation rentals. In Unexploded Cow you amass herds of mad cows and march them through the French countryside in search of unexploded ordnance from the First and Second World Wars. When one of your cows explodes, you get money. It’s a very fun game for groups of two to six, and each round goes only about 25 minutes.

Our fourth and final suggestion is Settlers of Catan. A global sensation when released, it pits settlers against each other to have the most dominant settlement on a deserted island. This game can be somewhat more cutthroat than the others, so it is a great one for families and friends who like some more intense competition over something that ultimately doesn’t matter — so it’s great for a “night in” at your cozy, homey beach home rentals. “Washed Ashore” Exhibit Welcomes Visitors From Oregon Beach Rentals

Mild year-round weather means there’s never a bad time for an Oregon beach vacation rental. Lincoln City, OR offers many activities and attractions during the fall and winter. This exhibit is a collection of large sculptures made using materials — debris, trash, and many items that were lost at sea or simply discarded — that were found along Oregon beaches.

The sculptures have natural themes, as in a large bald eagle with its wings spread, a parrot fish, a marlin, a penguin, and other aquatic animals.

The sculptures have traveled the country, including being displayed for a time at the Smithsonian, but they are back home in Oregon, along the coast where the debris was originally found.

Sea Lion Caves Provide Year Round Entertainment

In fact, they spend the majority of the spring and summer on the rocks outside the cave along the coast.
