Over the next few months, visitors are welcome to stop by the SW 33rd Street Beach Access in Lincoln City at specified dates and times to embark on a beachcombing “explorience” in search of agates, gemstones, jasper, petrified wood, and other oceanic treasures that wash ashore. A local expert will guide you during the approximately one-hour clinic, which does not require any sort of fees or pre-registration. Just show up ready to explore! The 2020 Beachcombing Exploriences are set to take place on February 1 at 9AM; Wednesday, February 5 at 1PM; Saturday, February 15 at 9AM; Thursday, February 20 at 2PM; Sunday, March 1 at 9AM; Saturday, March 7 at 2PM; Sunday, March 15 at 10AM; Saturday, March 28 at 8AM; Wednesday, April 1 at noon; and Saturday, April 4 at 2PM.

Winterfest Siletz: River of Dreams

The famous Siletz Bay Music Festival takes place in Lincoln City every summer and the organizers of this event have expanded to form a nonprofit that puts on musical events throughout the year to fund the big summer festival. As part of the celebration, an extra 20 floats decorated with the new Explore Lincoln City branding will be hidden along the beach on the 20^th of each month.

May 21 will also be a great day to explore the beach for crabs and possibly catch your own dinner! A free crabbing clinic will take place at the pavilion on Southwest 51^st Street, in the Historic Taft District, starting at 1:45pm. The clinic will begin with a brief orientation, then you’ll walk down to Siletz Bay to get the crabbing underway. No registration is required but you might want to visit the Explore Lincoln City website for more details.

Fun for Music and Movie Lovers

There are so many upcoming music performances at various venues around Lincoln City that it would take pages to list them all, so you can rest assured that whenever you’re planning on visiting something will be on. One popular recurring event will take place at the Lincoln City Cultural Center on May 19; the latest installment of the center’s Coffee Concerts series features local musicians with free pastries and coffee for all attendees. And if movies are more your thing, you also won’t be disappointed if you’re in town on a Saturday. The Bijou Theater’s Saturday Morning Cinema series features classic films every Saturday morning at 11am, such as the Sandlot on May 18.

With some of the state’s best seaside attractions and beach house rentals, Lincoln City, Oregon is known for its 7½ miles of beautiful beaches that attract visitors throughout the year. This is why it’s the perfect setting for Laura Joki’s beachcombing clinics that started in January of this year and are wrapping up at the end of April. If you want to catch one of these fun and free beachcombing clinics while they last, or if you’re just looking for an excuse to get away from it all, it’s about time to book your beach vacation rentals! When to Visit and What to Expect

This year’s season of weekly beachcombing clinics started on New Year’s Day, and there are only four sessions left in 2019. Weather permitting, these clinics will take place at the SW 33rd Street beach access point on the following dates and times:

Saturday, April 13 at 11:00 a.m.
Wednesday, April 17 at 3:00 p.m.
Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 a.m.

The clinics each begin with a short orientation followed by a walk along the beach with stops to guide you through the process of hunting for seaside treasures such as gemstones, fossils, agates, shells, rocks, minerals, jasper, and petrified wood. Beachcombers are advised to follow strict beach safety precautions, wear good outdoors shoes, and to bring a raincoat, a pair of gloves, and a sturdy container or bag for collecting all your treasures. Over the course of the two-hour clinic you are also encouraged to ask lots of questions, so that next time you go to the beach, you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for.

Gem & Jewelry Lovers Are Always Welcome

Even when the beachcombing clinic season is over, visitors can always find Laura Joki at Rock Your World, a shop in Lincoln City’s Nelscott District run by her and husband Mike Joki. They sell all sorts of rocks, gems, fossils, and handcrafted jewelry made from these and other treasures from the seaside. It’s always worth a visit even if you just want to have a chat and see what they have in their collection. If you love shopping for unique and handmade items, there are also several other jewelry shops in Lincoln City as well as art galleries, glass and pottery studios, gift shops, and other unique stores where local artisans and antique dealers sell their wares.
